discussion of painting on sunrise talk show July 19th 2007
Furore over children drug use painting
articles in MX, Courier Mail & Brisbane Times and Sunrise talkshow channel 7.

A naughty painting of mine from 1999, returned to make some news thursday july 19th.

A PAINTING of two children preparing to shoot up displayed in a shop window in Fortitude Valley has sparked a public debate, amid calls for customers to boycott the boutique.
The painting has been hanging in the front window of Ultra Suite, on Ann St, since Friday.
Drug Arm, a drug awareness, rehabilitation and management organisation, and passers-by have requested it be removed, but the boutique owner has yet to make a decision.
"Is the retailer condoning illicit drug use, or accepting this behaviour? Perhaps such a controversial piece would be better suited to a private gallery," Drug Arm executive director Dennis Young said.
He called for customers to boycott the shop until it was removed. But Ultra Suite owner Mykl Notman, who has owned the artwork White children playing in the late 1900s, by ex-Brisbane artist Ben Frost, for more than a decade, said the painting was a comment piece and did not glamorise or condone drugs.
"If this painting is evoking a conversation about a terrible problem in our community and society, it is probably doing its job," he said.
Reactions from people walking past Ultra Suite this morning were mixed.
"Personally, I think its disgusting," said Amy Hinterdorfer, 21.
"We walked past on Friday night and there were people standing around talking about it, and we talked about it on the bus yesterday," Lorrae Hendry, 23, said.

these pix from the painting 'FINAL DAYS' 2.9m x 1.2m which featured in the june exhibition 'NEW GODS' at blank space here in sydney. It's the biggest painting i've painted to date by myself, but i kept it my mind the collaborative piece i did with roderick bunter called 'where do you want to go today?' which was something like 9m x 2.4m and featured in Primavera 2002 at the Sydney MCA .article about the work here I'm keen to make some sculptures based on images in this piece, specifically the Tweety with birds eating from his brain. I like the motif of that, cause its kind of like birds in different format eating a cartoon bird's brains - a cannibal holocaust kind of thing. it relates also to pluto being fucked in the arse by goofy - i mean they are both dogs, so it's not beastiality, but why is it that goofy talks but pluto is just mickey's pet that doesn't have the ability to talk?
'Self-regenerating Bambi' cast polyurethane, may 2006 (no 1. of 2.) + 'Kmart After Dark' the original painting featuring Bambi in 2D form
- the first Bambi, featured above was sold to a collector in Perth.
the second full Bambi sculpture which was identical to this one with a few minor variations, was exhibited recently -
but DESTROYED! it was an awesome sight to see, a young girl so drunk she could hardly stand up stagger into the gallery
and crash tackle the plinthe Bambi sat on, knocking it to the ground and breaking it into 20 pieces. She was carried out of the gallery unable to stand up, and unluckily for me i'm out a few thousand dollars which was the asking price for the piece. if only there were an australian Judge Judy. To the girl who did it - thankyou, and thankyou for denying you did it when I asked you if you had. But anyways, life goes on. .
